How to get a Library card at the Hesperia Community Library
We serve patrons who live in: Newfield Township, Denver Township, Greenwood Township, Village of Hesperia, and Beaver Township that is part of the Hesperia Community School District.

Juvenile Resident Card (under 18 years old):
- Parent/legal guardian must fill out information for a card for you.
- Bring your parent/legal guardian to the library.
- Parent/legal guardian must have a Michigan driver’s license or Michigan ID. The ID must have your current address on it.
Adult Resident Card (over 18 years old):
- Bring a valid Michigan driver’s license or Michigan ID with your current address to the library.
If you do not live in our service area you have two options:
Student Card (school-year only):
- Attend Hesperia Community Schools – grades K through 12.
- These cards are valid from September 1st until May 1st
Non-Resident Card (adult or student):
- Bring your parent/legal guardian to the library.
- Parent/legal guardian must have a Michigan driver’s license or Michigan ID with a
current address. - This card will cost $12 for 3 months or $48 for a year.
You will be limited to materials owned by Hesperia Community Library. No Lakeland Cooperative
borrowing, MeL borrowing or access to downloadable ebooks or audiobooks.
The library card is meant to be used only by the person whose name is on the card. They are not family
cards.
If you have a card at another library you can check out materials at our library unless you have unpaid
fees on your record.
Ways to donate to your favorite library
Volunteers
People are encouraged to share their time and talents with the Friends of the Library or with the Local History Committee. These groups support the activities of the Library. If you are interested in helping, please contact the Library Director.
Donations
There are many ways to donate to the library:
- Become a member of the Friends of the Library.
- Volunteer your time/talent to the Friends of the Library or the Local History committee.
- Provide gently used books for our Friends of the Library book sales.
- Make a cash contribution during our Annual Appeal campaign in December of each year or anytime using one of the links below.
- You can make a cash contribution to our endowments at the Fremont Area Community Foundation or
- The Oceana Community Foundation .
- Make a memorial gift to the Library. We have information that will help you make a cash contribution to our endowment at the Fremont Area Community Foundation in memory of someone. You can also use the Donate button below to make a memorial gift, please be sure to include in the “Note” option the name of the person the memorial is for.

Information about Friends of the Library and how to be a friend
The Friends of the Library is a group of volunteers who care about the Hesperia Community Library and work together to promote and provide support for programs for all ages. Our funding comes through an Annual Membership drive , donations and book sales.
Meetings are called 3 to 4 times per year, and the library director submits requests for funding for various projects. The winter and summer reading programs, photo contests, adult crafting sessions, Santa’s visits and movies are some of the projects funded in the past.
We are always happy to have new members join this group of library lovers!
The Friends membership year starts in July and ends in June and the suggested donation for membership is $15.00.
The Friends Book Shoppe is open during the Library hours is open. The Shoppe sells gently used books and notecards. They also offer free donated magazines and information about community events and organizations.
The Friends also sponsor two Used Book Sales each year.
Donations to the Friends:
- can be delivered to the Library Circulation Desk
- can include gently used books and magazines
- must be clean, free of mold, mildew, stains and insects
- should not be outdated or damaged materials
- become the property of the Friends and will be used as best determined by Library Staff
Please do not donate:
- Encyclopedias
- Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
- textbooks
- VHS tapes
- books on cassette tape
Please limit donations to 1 box or bag at a time.
